The "Grandma Julia" Lively Thanksgiving dinner was held at Botsford Baptist Church in Shell Bluff on Friday, November 24th, 2000. It has been the tradition in recent years to "roast' one of the children of Julia Lively. This ye@@ however, it was decided to simply-visit and tell tales on each other. Many shared their favorite memories of this brother or that sister. Many cousins, aunts, uncles and friends joined in the "game", provided by Pam Poole Rogers of naming alT the children and grandchildren . The winner was the one who could name the most. Aunt Sevena Weis named them all and won a prize!
Urbane Lively closed our evening with a poem. It follows for your enjoyment.
The Lively family and all their relations,
Is a truly wonderful clan,
greatly exceeding all expectations
for every child, woman and man.
The Lord has blessed me in many ways
much more than I deserve.
But most of aft in my worldly days,
is the family / have on Earth.
Growing up wlth my uncles and aunts,
more parents that / thought / needed,
always reminding me of "cans and can'ts",
and somehow, thank God, they succeeded.
/ had more cousins than any / knew,
they felt like sisters and brothers.
and their parents would always treat you
so, just like my father and mother.
So / guess the point of this little rhyme
Is to say how much you all meant to me.
For sharing your love, your homes, your time,
wherever / happened to be.
There's just one thing I'd like to ask,
from the Florida family tree.
If it's not too burdensome a task,
please count your votes expediently!
Of course, this was a lot funnier back in November -- but I thought you'd still get a kick out of it.
The "Uncle Warren" Lively family reunion was held on Thanksgiving day at Botsford. They had a wonderful turnout of over 80 people.
We would love to hear about other branches of the Lively family and their reunions. Please let us hear from you so we can tell all your cousins about your reunion as well.

There are now and have been for generations many Lively's actively involved in missions. We'd like to tell you about a few.
David Lively, son of Ben Lively (son of Warren Lively) of Atlanta, is currently working in Kosovo spreading the word of God
Many of our young people were involved in this years "Gather at the Pole" , an event which meets yearly at flag poles around our nation as a way of publicly praying in our schools. We would love to be able to report next year a true number of how many of our kids were involved.
A number of our cousins are also involved in the area of music ministry.
David Poole (son of Octoma Lively Poole) is currently performing with the group "THE NINTH HOUR" along with his son Nathan. The group plays progressive Christian music at local festivals, youth gatherings and coffee houses around Columbia, South Carolina. David sings and writes much of the groups material. Nathan plays lead guitar and is beginning to do some writing of his own. You can see a picture of them on page 4.

I've been thinking recently about the impact events have on our lives. I guess because of some things that have happened to my children lately. I've always tried so hard to give them good memories to carry into their adult lives but . . .
the fact is, I'm not the only one giving them memories. Every little thing that happens to us i6ft-ects who we turn out to be. Some good, some not so good but everything effects. And the strange part th me is how what might effect you so traumatically, the other's involved in the memory probably don't even remember it.
When I was about eleven, our family moved into our new house. We were all very proud but I don't believe for one minute any body was more proud than me! Daddy let us plan the color for our walls. Mine was purple. One of my aunts, one who I had always felt was so cultured and beautiful, made me a pretty pillow and a beautiful white wicker trash can with pretty purple flowers on it. Too me, it was some of the finest furnishings a room could have. Many years later, I thought to thank her for it. She has no memory of it. It was probably just one of a million thoughtful gestures that she has made in her life. But in the life of an eleven year old it made enough of an impact that it -stayed put in my soul for some 35 years.
Then there was the aunt (actually she was an aunt-in-law on my mother's side) who broke my heart. I was maybe six. This particular aunt was married to my favorite uncle. They had just had a baby and lived what seemed to me to be a million miles away. They were coming for a visit and I couldn't wait. Nobody loved babies more than me and nobody loved this uncle more than me. I worked for days on a little embroidered "sampler" (done on a piece of notebook paper with yarn and buttons) and couldn't wait to give it to my auntWhen they arrived, I presented it to her gleefully.
Now, I was nervous and insecure (and six years old!) about what I'd done and I remember saying something like "Take this, I made it for you" and she wouldn't take it from my hand. She said that I should be more polite about the way I spoke to adults. When they left, she left my treasure behind . I remember vividly taking it outside and burning it. My heart was broken. This one truly has stayed with me. Now, the aunt is long gone. I still think my uncle is one of the coolest people around. But the memory stayed. The point of my ramblings: ever thing you do or say to a child effects the adult he'll become. Be careful.

Dear Cousins,
Just a short note to bring ya'll up to date on the bathrooms at the pond. The slab has been poured and the plumbing run. Mike is in the process of ordering the block for the walls. Once that arrives we'll schedule a work day to lay the block. We need some "strong backs and weak minds' as my Daddy used to say. Uncle Julian has agreed to oversee the block laying to make sure we do it right the first time. As he's fond of saying "work smarter not harder". No wonder Mike's got the money and I've got the body.
This will just about deplete our money and we still need a roof. I promise the walls and doors will be up by the fourth but if it rains you may still think you're using an outhouse. Unless of course we all pitch in once again. It doesn't have to be a hundred it can be ten or twenty whatever you feel you can give. I didn't say spare because if you're like me you can't spare anything. Enough about money. When it's finished we're going to have a first class facility.
Sherry's about to kill me to get this done so I'll wait till next time to expound on the new state flag -
Just a suggestion - don't bring one to
the pond.

A number of our cousins are involved in the American Cancer Society Fundraiser, Relay for Life, held yearly in many cities around the country. Kim Brown is very active in Ringgold and has participated for years in honor of family members who have had cancer. She came up with the idea of printing tee shirts with the Relayfor Life logo along with "Steppin' Lively for..... the blank being filled in with the name of a special person in your life who has had cancer. She is offering this to all of us and you can order yours by filling out the order form on page four and mailing it back to her with payment. Orders MUST be placed by March 28th. This is NOT a fundraiser. Your payment will cover cost of the shirt and postage back to you. It there are any proceeds leftover, they will be donated to the American Cancer Society. You can learn more about Relay for Life by visiting the American Cancer Society web site at www.cancer.org and click on Relay for Life . If you need further information, call Kim at 706-965-5306 or e-mail at mkbrown@aol.com.
