LIVELY FAMILY ERECTS MONUMENTS FOR ANCESTORS

A lifelong search for the graves of Abram and Matthew Lively was culminated with the placing of grave markers for them along with markers for Mark and George P. Lively, on Saturday April 8, 1995. Abram and Matthew Lively were the founders of the Lively Family in Georgia. Abram Lively having come to this country with General James Oglethorpe, fought with him in the Battle of "Bloody Marsh" at St.Simons Island, Georgia in 1742. He later settled in St' George's Parish, (Burke County, Georgia), near Briar Creek. His son Matthew served with the Georgia Militia during the Revolutionary War. Some years ago members of the "Lively League" of Burke County prompted a search to locate the graves of Abram and Matthew. It has been determined that the most logical place of their burial is the Lively-Holland Cemetery in Burke county, but no grave markers have ever been located. As a tribute to the two patriarchs of the family, grave markers for them, along with commemorative markers for Mark and George P. Lively were obtained and placed at the Lively Pond adjacent to the grave markers for Mark and Jane Lively who were buried nearby. Now the descendants of Abram and Matthew Lively can see a visible monument honoring their existence in the land of the "Free and the Brave" of which they served.
